Top Boy To Return With a 3rd Season On Netflix in 2019

Ashley Walters and co are going back to Summerhouse in 2019…

In a simultaneous announcement, Ashley Walters, Kano, Drake and Netflix all announced the return of Top Boy in 2019. Finally confirmed the long-rumoured return, over Twitter, Ashley wrote “So after years of speculation and anticipation I can finally reveal that we have managed to secure a brand new home for the new season of TOPBOY! In all honesty I’m more happy for you guys than myself.”

What began as Twitter appreciation and followed with a series of hints across social media, Drake had made his interest in bringing the show back to the screens known widely. In a new interview for Hollywood Reporter, charting his foray into film, Drake officially put the stamp on the Netflix revival of the 2011 cult British crime drama series Top Boy which originally starred Ashley Walters (Dushane) and Kano (Sully).

Drake went on to talk about what drew him to Top Boy, “that human element drew me in,” he says. “I started just looking them up. Like, who are these people? Are these actors I should know? Are they just famous over there? I remember I hit Future, and I was just like, ‘This show is incredible.'”  Drake and Future along with SpringHill Entertainment will executive produce the series, which will go into production early next year and is due in 2019.

Originally created and written by Northern Irish novelist and screenwriter Ronan Bennett (also the creator behind the new series Gunpowder), while living in Hackney at the time he was inspired to write the story, “I was already thinking about writing about this world, but I knew that if I did I would want to write about it from the bottom up, from the point of view, not of the police, but of the ‘tinies’ and ‘youngers’ hanging around the supermarket forecourt every day. But how was I going to get into this world?”

Netflix’s official press release gives a lead into the forthcoming storyline, which“picks up as Dushane (Walters) returns from exile to his home in London to reclaim his throne in the highly lucrative drug market. He teams up with Sully (Kane Robinson), his spiritual brother, partner, and sometime rival who is also returning to the same streets after his own form of exile – prison – comes to an end. Awaiting them both is Jamie, the young, hungry and ruthless gang leader whose ambitions leave no place for Dushane and Sully.”

2019 will be the year of the Top Boy!
