Kaytranada, the Montreal hailing go-to producer for everything and anything melodic and experimental has delivered. Many have followed Kaytanada’s development on Soundcloud over the years religiously. Now under XL his debut album ‘99.9%’ is a beautiful musical montage of Kaytranada’s abilities, talents and friends.
At 15 tracks in length ‘99.9%’ is a generous offering. The glitzy jazz, come house, fuelled instrumental opener, ‘Track Uno’ sets the pace for the rest of ‘99.9%’. The guest features on the album are all little gems, building up to the beautiful patchwork of music on ‘99.9%’. With appearances from our very own Craig David on ‘Got It Good’, which has a familiar yet future sound, Syd da Kid, Anderson .Paak, Karriem Riggins, River Timber, AlunaGeorge, GoldLink, rapper Phonte, fellow Canadian’s BADBADNOTGOOD and Chicago’s Vic Mensa on ‘Drive Me Crazy’ all make the album cut.
It’s nostalgic, yet forward thinking in sound. Driven by baseline, jazz and funk ‘99.9%’ is one that is perfect for the summer. It only dropped today and I’m already on my third listen, and I’m trying to decide on a favourite, so far it’s between ‘Glowed Up‘ with Anderson .Paak or ‘Together’ alongside AlunaGeorge and GoldLink. Decide for yourself, join Kaytranada on his never-ending musical montage. Download ‘99.9%’ here or stream via Spotify below.
