Jazz Cartier The Phantom In His ‘Opera’

Taking Gaston Leroux, ‘Phantom of the Opera’ as an inspiration, Jazz Cartier brings his inner phantom out to the ‘Opera’ in a brand-new track.

Toronto born, and relocating at age 9 to live in Kuwait, playing tennis in Barbados, and going to boarding school in America, Jazz Cartier hasn’t had a conventional breeding ground for his sound. Since returning back to his home turf in Toronto, Cartier has taken the city to his heart and become it’s next big hope in Hip-Hop. His debut mixtape Marauding in Paradise was long listed for the Polaris music Prize, Canada’s equivalent to the Mercury Music Prize, and within the space of 2 years Cartier has become the buzz rapper of the moment.

While he’s holed up in the studio with Mike Will Made-It as one of Red Bull’s Sound Select, it may not be a long-shot to assume that he’s got another project about to drop and an eye on an international breakthrough anytime soon. ‘Opera’ is a haunting production with all the elements of a phantom who’s ready to rise up from the underground and take his place on the stage.
