Jazz is breaking new ground today just as it did at it’s inception. Last Friday, Gregory Porter made history to become the first jazz artist in a decade to break into the Top 5 U.K album charts with his latest album.
After delivering the most streamed jazz album of all time with his previous release ‘Liquid Spirit’, Gregory Porter has since come to embody a stalwart for a new age of Jazz and Soul enthusiasts. Nothing less than a global phenomenon, Porter has already sold over a million albums worldwide. ‘Take Me To The Alley’ his latest album, has now broken his previous album record scoring a top 5 entry in the album charts.
Launching anticipation for his new album ‘Take Me To The Alley’ with the single ‘Don’t Lose Your Steam’, both in it’s original version as a bluesy ode to his three-year-old son Demyan, the Fred Falke remix adds a soulful house groove to the stunning track.
Billed to play on the Pyramid main stage at Glastonbury, Gregory Porter’s Jazz ensemble hits the festival circuit again joining a Glastonbury line up this year that also includes Kamasi Washington, both appearing on Sunday 26th June.
‘Take Me To The Alley’, reasserts not only Porter’s position as a treasured artist with British fans but also proves his versatility beyond Jazz and straight to the heart of songwriting. On this album, Gregory set out to “condense life experience into melody and most of all put love in the air,” and he’s got that love back tenfold.
Taking to the stage at a sold out performance closing out his 18 date tour of the U.K at the Eventim Apollo in London, Porter enamoured jazz and soul fans to a stunning live performance with his full live band – check out more shots above.
