Manchester International Festival, emerged in 2007 as one of the most promising biennial arts festivals in the world, commissioning some of the most ambitious and groundbreaking creative projects from musicians, actors, filmmakers to artists. World premieres of specially commissioned work from the likes of Massive Attack x Adam Curtis in collaboration with Es Devlin, to Bjork’s ‘Biophilia’ and Mathew Barney’s expansively dark ‘The River of Fundament’ have created a genesis of performance magic.
FKA twigs residency at the Old Granada Studios in Manchester over 7 days in the summer of 2015, was one made for the creative collaborative space true to the spirit of the MIF. Taking place 9th-18th July 2015, commissioned by MIF and The Space, Soundtrack 7 – rehearsed over 7 days and open to the public, took place as a real-time creation culminating in a final 40 minute performance piece featuring choreographed performances to seven songs.

Described as an “abstract autobiographical piece,” the film originally premiered in August at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, has been available to U.K. viewers for a month and is now widely available as a 35 minute short film. Soundtrack 7 is performanced to tell seven narratives from FKA twigs’ own life with a preface in her own words of Thomas Wyatt’s poem ‘I Find No Peace’.
