Having just released the visuals for ‘Reminder’ which, if anything, reaffirmed his strong ties with the hip-hop and R&B world (he got cameos from Drake, A$AP Rocky, Bryson Tiller, French Montana, YG and Travis Scott), The Weeknd has just followed it up with some visuals for the Daft Punk-assisted ‘I Feel It Coming’.
This video, however, aims to do the opposite: namely, pitch The Weeknd as a bona fide popstar or, perhaps more specifically, the King of Pop. It wasn’t difficult to discern that ‘Starboy’s closing track was an MJ tribute, but when Abel decided to sport a flashy coat with the shoulder pads – it all got a lot more real. The Warren Fu-directed visual opts for a rather grainy, lunar-like setting, with Abel singing and shuffling his feet gleefully in a manner akin to Michael. Later on, after Abel and his on-screen lover get the Medusa treatment – we get a rather sinister cameo from Daft Punk who come correct with intergalactic outfits.
