We’ve been waiting for this one for a minute, and after a string of tracks and a video, Atlanta’s 6LACK’s debut offering is finally here for your ears.
Featuring the standout ‘Prblms’ and ‘Ex Calling’, ‘Free 6LACK’ is an expansive 11 track body of work, charting his journey from being stuck in a toxic, constraining record deal from 2011, to him now working with the LVRN collective. With no features across the 11 tracks, 6LACK owns his project in its entirety. He covers themes of love, relationships, both personal and professional but also the role of the artist in modern music.
The album cover for this one too is pretty amazing, yes, it’s a real bear (confirmed by 6LACK in a recent interview) it shows there’s a lot more to this Atlanta alt-R&B singer than meets the eye. With his standout, distinctive, hazy, yet clear vocals oozing out and echoing on each track, 6LACK creates an atmosphere.
Serving as an almost diary entry into the last 6 years of 6LACK’s life, the project is captured most in the final nine minute long track ‘Alone / EA6’, where he proudly proclaims he’s sticking to his own rules, even if it means he’s gonna be alone.
Don’t sleep on him, stream the album below.
